A freak car accident at work almost a decade ago saw Michelle Winkler lose a leg at the tender age of 24.
Life for the co-founder of Master Advocates in Melbourne would never be the same again and together with husband Mark, the pair decided to plan their future around their passions.
“From that moment we realised how much life can change in an instant,” said Michelle who was born and raised in Essendon, Moonee Valley.
Michelle went from losing a leg to within 10 months learning to walk, learning to walk down the wedding aisle and learning to dance a wedding waltz.
“We started to do things we were passionate about and for me that was running, so I did.”
Michelle went on to represent Australia as a Paralympian in the womens T42 100m sprint final at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.
“What a proud and privileged moment and journey it was to experience with her and our family and friends,” said Michelle’s husband Mark.
“I’m so grateful that our daughters Ava Rose and Willow Beth have such an amazing mum as a positive role model.
“We both wanted to run a business after the Paralympics and having already worked together in the Melbourne real estate industry for many years, we focused on realising the other passion in our lives which was buyer’s advocacy.
“I’d come across it by helping family friends in the past and I felt it was definitely a career path and business we’d like to establish ourselves.
“We’re doing what we’re passionate about, for us it’s not a job.”
